Commander Brian Dunn grew up immersed in a culture of service, inspired by his father’s military career in the U.S. Army. That early influence instilled in him a lifelong calling to serve his community.

Commander Dunn earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Northern Arizona University before joining the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. He later served with the Arizona Army National Guard’s 855th Military Police Company based in Phoenix. While continuing his education and pursuing a business degree from Arizona State University, he also worked in the banking industry.

His experience serving during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita reignited his passion for public service. He left his corporate career behind and joined the Chandler Police Department in 2007.

Commander Dunn began his career in patrol and later worked as a detective in Property Crimes, Burglary, and the Auto Theft Units. In 2013, he joined the SWAT Team as a crisis negotiator and went on to serve in the Professional Standards Section before being promoted to Sergeant in 2018. He supervised patrol and during the COVID-19 pandemic, also played a key leadership role in overseeing one of Arizona’s largest vaccine distribution sites, in Chandler.

Promoted to Lieutenant in 2021, he served as a Patrol Watch Commander and then led the Community Relations Section, supervising the School Resource Officer Program, Crime Prevention Unit, Bike Team, Officer Reserve Program, Police Aides, and Cadet programs. In 2025, he was promoted to Commander and now oversees the Downtown Precinct.

Commander Dunn holds a Master’s degree in Business Management and Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Bachelor of Science in Business from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Northern Arizona University.

He is a recipient of the Chief’s Award of Excellence.

Known for his mentorship and leadership, Commander Dunn is committed to empowering officers and professional staff with the tools, training, and support they need to succeed in their careers and serve the Chandler community with excellence.

The Chandler Police Department’s Downtown Precinct is supervised by Commander Brian Dunn.  The precinct is organized into two districts: District Three and District Four.  District Three is composed of Beats seven through nine and District Four is made up of Beats 10 through 12.

The Downtown Station is the largest of the Department’s three facilities.  Not only does this station house all of the patrol officers and their supervisors who work in Districts Three and Four, it’s home to the Department’s Administration, Media Relations Unit, Professional Standards Section, Legal Unit, Professional Services Division, Bicycle Unit, and the Detention Services Unit.  In addition, one Crime Prevention Officer is assigned to the precinct.

The patrol officers who work Districts Three and Four are responsible for an area that is approximately 12 square miles with a population of 68,000 residents, which includes City Hall, the Chandler Magistrate Court, and the Chandler Justice Court.  This Precinct blends historical neighborhoods with the City’s first master-planned residential communities and multi-housing complexes.  The area has the largest concentration of Traditional Neighborhoods (Non-HOA), and has experienced transitional growth with the appreciation for history and the repurposing of many of its original structures.  The City’s birth took place within this Precinct’s boundaries with Chandler High School, and the San Marcos Hotel standing as reminders of Chandler’s past.

Downtown Chandler encompasses the Downtown Station Precinct with restaurants, entertainment venues, and multi-housing units.  It is home to the City’s Entertainment District and has been designated for Enhanced Municipal Services poised for increased density and sustainability.  Most of the Special Events scheduled in the city occur in the Downtown area with plans scheduled for a main event stage venue.  A.J. Chandler Park hosts a number of cultural events and festivals throughout the year.  The University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Western International University all have partnerships in this Precinct along with the Chandler/ Gilbert Community College.
