CHANDLER, AZ — As students return to the classroom, the Chandler Police Department, in partnership with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, is reminding drivers to use extra caution around schools.

From July 20 through July 31, 2026, the Department’s Traffic Unit will conduct a high-visibility traffic safety campaign focused on protecting students, parents, school staff, crossing guards, and everyone traveling near school campuses.

Enforcement and Education

Throughout the campaign, officers will conduct targeted traffic enforcement in school zones across Chandler while also sharing safety information through the Department’s social media channels to reinforce safe driving habits.

The campaign will focus on violations that place children at risk, including:

  • Speeding in school zones
  • Failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
  • Illegal parking in and around school campuses
  • Violations involving stopped school buses displaying flashing lights and extended stop arms

Enforcement locations and daily focus areas will vary throughout the campaign based on traffic safety concerns, community feedback, and operational needs.

“We want every child to arrive safely each day, and that starts with drivers slowing down, staying alert, and following the law,” said Chandler Police Sergeant Jason Alnas.

Help Keep Students Safe

The Chandler Police Department encourages all drivers to:

  • Eliminate distractions while driving.
  • Obey posted school zone speed limits.
  • Watch for children who may enter the roadway unexpectedly.
  • Stop for school buses when required by law.

A few extra seconds of patience can help prevent a tragedy and keep Chandler’s students safe throughout the school year.
