Chandler, Ariz. – Since July 1, 2024 The Chandler Police Department’s Real-Time Operations Center (RTOC) has played a critical role in modernizing public safety and improving officer response. Serving as a central hub for public safety technology, the RTOC integrates camera feeds, sensors, license plate readers, 911 streaming software, and databases to deliver real-time support to officers and community members in the field.

“I think the way we are doing business is going to change how police work is done in the future,” said Chandler PD Strategic Initiatives Manager, Michelle Potts.

The future is now when it comes to centralizing the technology Chander PD has at its disposal. Many of these tools existed prior to opening the RTOC, and now having them all in one location is improving the information sharing process.

Key Accomplishments in Year One:

  • 11,000 patrol incidents assisted
  • 4,800 license plate recognition alerts
  • 2,500+ virtual first-on-scene incidents
  • 120 calls resolved by RTOC operators
  • 65 criminal arrests because of RTOC support
  • 50 stolen vehicle/stolen license plate recoveries
  • 20 large-scale community events supported

“We have a responsibility to our community to continually improve the services that we provide, and part of that is about leveraging technology to ensure we are responding faster, safer and smarter,” Assistant Police Chief Melissa Deanda said.

Looking ahead, the RTOC will expand its hours of operation and add additional sworn and civilian operators. Plans are also underway to enable recording features on traffic cameras, further assisting investigations.

“We are so fortunate to have the support from the Chief’s Office, City Council, The City Manager’s Office and the community has reached out as well. We have been very fortunate to have the resources that we need,” Potts said.

The growth of the RTOC and addition of new technology will be crucial to continuously improving service, which is the goal and directive at the Chandler Police Department.
