Return Me Safe
The Chandler Police Department established the Return Me Safe program in 2015 to enhance our partnership with the community and improve public safety for individuals with disabilities or medical conditions, as well as their families, caregivers, and support networks.
Return Me Safe is a voluntary registry designed to support positive, informed interactions between first responders and community members. Participants or their caregivers may choose to share helpful information-such as communication preferences, calming strategies, behavioral triggers, medical considerations, or a history of wandering-before an emergency occurs. Access to this information allows officers to respond with greater understanding, compassion, and effectiveness during police contact and increases the likelihood of safely reuniting individuals with their families or caregivers.
Participation is open to individuals who live, work, attend school, or receive therapy within the City of Chandler.
Who Is the Program For?
The Return Me Safe registry may be helpful for individuals who:
- May wander or become separated from a safe or familiar environment
- May have difficulty communicating or responding during an emergency
- May have behavioral, cognitive, or medical challenges that could affect interactions with first responders
Conditions That May Impact Communication or Behavior
Individuals with a wide range of conditions may benefit from participation, including those affected by:
- Intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) (such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, Angelman syndrome, or other developmental disabilities)
- Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias
- Medical conditions (such as epilepsy, diabetes, or other conditions that may cause confusion or medical distress)
- Mental health conditions (such as PTSD, paranoia, or other mental health conditions)
Privacy and Participation
Participation in the Return Me Safe program is entirely voluntary. Information provided is used solely to assist first responders during police or public safety encounters and is linked only to the address and role identified within the registry. The information is not used for enforcement purposes and is intended to support respectful and informed responses.
