Chandler Police Reminds Community of Parking Regulations

The Chandler Police Department is reminding residents and visitors about important parking regulations that help keep our streets safe, accessible, and clear for everyone.

Parking laws are in place to protect visibility, ensure emergency access, and prevent traffic hazards in neighborhoods and along roadways. Drivers are encouraged to pay close attention to where they park to avoid violations.

“Where and how you park matters more than people may realize,” said Lt. David Pilkington of the Chandler Police Department. “Improper parking can block emergency access, reduce visibility for drivers and pedestrians, and create unnecessary safety risks in our community.”

Under most circumstances, parking is prohibited in the following locations:

  • On a sidewalk
  • Blocking a public or private driveway
  • Within an intersection
  • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
  • On a crosswalk
  • Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection
  • Within 30 feet of the approach to a flashing beacon, stop sign, yield sign or traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway

Additional parking rules also apply. On a one-way roadway, vehicles must be parked with the left-hand wheels adjacent to and within 18 inches of the left-hand curb.

The City of Chandler also prohibits parking in alleys except in limited circumstances, including:

  • Loading or unloading merchandise or passengers, as long as traffic is not completely blocked
  • Repair service work, when necessary to load or unload tools or parts

Any vehicle or trailer left unattended in an alley for more than 10 minutes may be considered in violation.

In addition, vehicles may not be stored on any street, highway, road, public thoroughfare or other public property, except for city-owned vehicles parked on public property.

The Chandler Police Department appreciates the community’s cooperation in following parking regulations and helping keep roadways safe and accessible for all.
