Citizen’s Police Academy

The Chandler Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy is a no cost program designed for residents and members of the local business community. This engaging academy offers participants a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the Chandler Police Department and the daily operations of law enforcement.

Through interactive sessions, attendees gain valuable insight into the department’s structure, specialized units, and community-focused initiatives. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and engage with police executives, veteran officers, and professional staff, fostering meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding.

The goal of the Citizen’s Academy is to enhance public awareness and promote a deeper appreciation of law enforcement’s role in keeping our community safe.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is NOT the police recruit academy.

  • Sex Crimes

  • Use of Force
  • Vehicular Crimes (VCU)

Eligibility Requirements:
Potential candidates for the Citizen’s Police Academy must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Reside in or work in the City of Chandler
  • Attend a school or be an applicant in the City of  Chandler
  • No prior felony arrests
  • No misdemeanor arrests within five years of the application
  • Each candidate will have a background check conducted by the police department

The Chandler Police Department reserves the right to deny applications and acceptance to any applicant.

Graduation Standards:

  • No more than two (2) absences
  • Adhere to the informational goals established for the academy

WHEN ARE THE CLASSES OFFERED?
The Chandler Police Department offers two 12-14 week academies per year with 20 – 25 participants in each Citizen’s Police Academy class. 

  • The next cohort is scheduled for February 18 – May 20, 2026. Registration will be available below starting on December 18, 2025.
