The act of prostitution has historically been viewed as a chosen lifestyle. However, in human trafficking cases, vulnerable individuals are manipulated into lives of prostitution by exploiters. Through continued partnerships with non-profit organizations such as TRUST, Shared Hope International, Dignity Health and Winged Hope, the Human Trafficking Unit strives to change the stereotype through which these individuals are viewed. The mission of the Unit is to detect, investigate and rescue juveniles and adults who are victims of human trafficking, primarily for purposes of illicit sexual acts. To meet these objectives, Unit detectives employ several investigative techniques in order to capture serious offenders responsible for recruiting, physically abusing, and controlling females into a life of prostitution.
