Suspects Apprehended in Brazen Firearms Heist

On Monday, December 3, 2018 around 11pm, 32-year-old Miguel Gomez and 26-year-old Alicia Gonzalez drove a stolen red Dodge pick-up through the front entrance of the Shopper’s Supply located at 2880 S. Alma School Road stealing multiple firearms. After a vehicle pursuit, Gomez and Gonzalez were taken into custody on the Gila River Indian Community and booked into jail on multiple felonies.

Thanks to Donation, K-9 Now Wearing Body Armor

Benzo, a Chandler Police K-9, has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K-9 officers. Renee Thomas of Chandler sponsored the vest.

Traffic Section to Participate in Annual DUI Task Force

Members of the Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Section will participate in the annual East Valley Holiday DUI Task Force, which begins on Friday, November 23, 2018 and runs through New Year’s Eve. Participating officers are specially trained in DUI detection methods, including the detection of drugs in the human body. Please, get home safe.

Chandler Police Department Receives GOHS Grant

The Chandler Police Department has received a $155,587 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to fund numerous traffic safety related programs for the period beginning October 25, 2018, through September 30, 2019. Please remember to always wear your seatbelt and call for a ride when alcohol consumption is part of your plans.

Halloween Safety Tips

With Halloween right around the bend, the Chandler Police Department would like to offer a few helpful safety tips to trick-or-treaters, parents, and motorists:

Traffic Section to Conduct Halloween DUI Task Force

The Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Section will participate in an upcoming Halloween DUI Task Force with the Scottsdale Police Department.  The task force will begin the weekend prior to Halloween along with October 30th and Halloween night.  Please remember; drive defensively, wear your seatbelt, and if alcohol consumption will be part of your Halloween celebration, call for a ride.  Please, get home safe.

Homicide Suspect Apprehended

In the early morning of October 21, 2018, 29-year-old German Roman Medina was shot and killed while fighting 18-year-old Joseph Caballero and 30-year-old Matthew Vacaneri. Joseph and Matthew were arrested and were both booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault and 1st Degree Murder, respectively.

Officer Involved Shooting Incident/Suicidal Subject With a Gun

On Friday, October 12, 2018 two Chandler Police Officers were involved in a shooting at 854 W. Calle Del Norte. Chandler Police was sent to the location after the resident, 84-year-old Kay Kenniker, threatened suicide. Kenniker fired at an officer before pointing a rifle at a second officer, which resulted in the shooting. Kenniker was pronounced deceased on-scene.

Chandler Police to Conduct Pedestrian Education and Enforcement Campaign

On Monday, October 15, 2018, the Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Section & Bike Unit will conduct a citywide pedestrian/ bicyclist education and enforcement campaign from 8 am to 6 pm. This day-long detail is a show of support for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s NHTSA Statewide Pedestrian & Bicyclist Focus Education and Enforcement Effort.
