The Planning and Research Section works under the direction of the Office of the Chief at the Downtown Precinct. The section is responsible for departmental fiscal and staffing analysis as well as facility and strategic planning. The fiscal responsibilities within the section involve the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP), forfeiture funds, and grant administration. The staffing responsibilities involve staffing and workload studies throughout the department and the evaluation of new technology and procedures in law enforcement. The department’s strategic plan and other future needs are also researched and prepared. The unit additionally serves as a liaison with area law enforcement agencies in the development of intergovernmental agreements. The unit also leads accreditation compliance and coordination. This Section is under the direction of Manager Julie Buelt.
