Chandler Police Issue Update on Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred on May 8, 2024.

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, just after 1:30 p.m., Chandler Police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 300 block of North Los Feliz Drive. Upon arrival, the homeowner informed police that a relative, who did not live in the home, was in their backyard behaving erratically.

Officers made entry into the backyard through a side gate and were immediately confronted by a suspect who was armed with two large knives. The suspect made threatening comments toward the officers. Officers on the scene attempted to de-escalate the situation for more than thirty minutes. The suspect refused to comply with officers’ commands.

Several less lethal devices were deployed by officers to try to gain compliance from the suspect. These attempts were unsuccessful. When the suspect charged at officers in an
aggressive manner with his weapons, three officers fired their duty weapons at the suspect.

Officers rendered medical aid. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Ruben Felix Alejandro Lopez, was ultimately pronounced deceased on the scene by the Chandler Fire Department.
