The Chandler Police Department has identified a recent trend in stolen vehicles. Vehicle burglary suspects, who commit “door flip” burglaries, are finding key fobs in vehicles and taking the opportunity to steal the vehicle. “Door flip” refers to suspects entering unlocked vehicles to commit the crime.
The burglars are using the stolen vehicle to assist them in covering larger areas in a quicker time frame. The stolen vehicle is then abandoned when the burglary spree is completed. This new trend accounted for 22% of identified auto thefts for the month of April in the City of Chandler.
To assist in reducing this type of crime, the Chandler Police Department recommends locking your vehicle and removing all valuables to include the key fob.
