Chandler Man Sentenced in 2018 Kidnap Case

On January 8, 2018 Chandler police arrested 51-year-old John Ormond for kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault, and threatening & intimidating.  Police were summoned to his residence after a family member of Ormond’s live-in girlfriend called to report they had not heard from her in weeks.  When officers arrived at Ormond’s home, they found the woman bound and suffering from severe injuries.  Further evidence inside the home showed the victim had been held captive and sustained her injuries days prior to police intervention.

The victim told investigators Ormond had held her captive since December 23, 2017.  During her captivity, Ormond sexually and physically assaulted her repeatedly.  During one encounter, the woman disclosed Ormond struck her with a wooden post across the head, which caused her to lose consciousness for three days.  When she awoke, the victim found her hands tied to a bed post and her feet shackled together.

On June 6, 2019, Ormond pled guilty to Sexual Assault, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, and Sexual Abuse.  He was sentenced to 28 years in prison, lifetime probation, and lifetime sex offender registration.
