Chandler Police to Conduct Pedestrian Education and Enforcement Campaign

On Monday, June 17, 2019, the Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Section & Bike Unit will conduct a citywide pedestrian/ bicyclist education and enforcement campaign.  Officers assigned to this detail will stop motorists, pedestrians, or bicyclists who violate any pedestrian state traffic laws or any applicable Chandler city codes.  This day-long detail campaign will be a combination of educational and enforcement efforts where violators of traffic law may receive a citation.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) provided funding for this event.

The campaign’s mission is to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety, and in turn, reduce collisions involving these groups with motor vehicles.  According to Arizona Crash Facts, 226 pedestrians were killed in collisions on Arizona roadways in 2017.  In that same year, 32 bicyclists died as a result of injuries sustained in motor vehicle collisions.

Let’s watch out for our pedestrians and bicyclists!
