Police to Conduct Pedestrian Education & Enforcement Campaign

On Monday, March 25, 2019, the Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Section will conduct a citywide pedestrian/ bicyclist education and enforcement campaign.  Officers assigned to this detail will stop motorists, pedestrians, or bicyclists who violate any pedestrian state traffic laws or any applicable Chandler city codes.  The campaign will be a combination of educational and enforcement efforts where violators of traffic law may receive a citation.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) will provide funding for this event.

The campaign’s mission is to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety, and in turn, reduce collisions involving these groups with motor vehicles.  According to Arizona Crash Facts, 226 pedestrians were killed in collisions on Arizona roadways in 2017.  In the same year, 32 bicyclists died as a result of injuries sustained in motor vehicle collisions.

Remember, drive defensively and with courtesy.
