Traffic Unit to Conduct Labor Day DUI Task Force

The Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Unit will participate in a DUI Task Force over the Labor Day weekend with officers from Mesa, and Scottsdale.  The task force will take place on Friday, September 1, 2017, and Saturday, September 2, 2017 with saturation patrols in Chandler, Scottsdale, and Mesa.  Friday’s task force will be hosted by the Scottsdale Police Department with a command post set-up at 7601 E. McKellips Road in Scottsdale.  On Saturday, the Mesa Police Department will act as host with a command post set-up at 1010 W. Grove in Mesa.

The Traffic Unit will focus their efforts in Chandler the remainder of the Labor Day weekend.  On Sunday, September 3, 2017 and Monday, September 4, 2017, the Traffic Unit will conduct saturation patrols throughout the City of Chandler.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) provided grant funding for the event.

Participating officers are specially trained in the detection of roadway impairment for excessive alcohol consumption and use of illicit or excessive prescription drugs.  The goal of the Labor Day Task Force is to remove impaired drivers from the road before the damaging, and often tragic, consequences that result from their poor decision to operate a vehicle under the influence.

Please remember to always wear your seatbelt and either designate a driver or call for a ride when alcohol consumption is a part of your holiday celebration.
