The Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI Task Force over the Labor Day weekend with officers from Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, and Scottsdale. The task force will run from Friday, September 2, 2016, through Monday, September 5, 2016, and will conduct saturation patrols throughout each participating agency’s respective city. The DUI Abatement Council provided grant funding for the event.
The Gilbert Police Department will host the first task force night on Friday, September 2, 2016, with a command post located at 2100 W. Guadalupe Road. On Saturday, September 3, 2016, the Scottsdale Police Department will host with a command post located at 7601 E. McKellips Road. The Chandler Police Department will host the Sunday, September 4, 2016, task force with a command post located at Arizona Avenue and Germann Road. On Labor Day, the task force returns to Scottsdale for its final night with the command post at the same location as September 3, 2016.
Participating officers are specially trained in the detection of roadway impairment for excessive alcohol consumption and use of illicit or excessive prescription drugs. The goal of the Labor Day Task Force is to remove impaired drivers from the road before the damaging, and often tragic, consequences that result from their poor decision to operate a vehicle under the influence.
Please remember to always wear your seatbelt and to designate a driver when alcohol consumption is a part of your holiday celebration.
