The Chandler Police Department’s Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI Task Force over the Labor Day weekend. The task force will run from Friday, August 29, 2014 through Saturday, August 30, 2014 and will conduct saturation patrols throughout the city. A command post will be established Friday evening at Arizona Ave. and Germann Rd and Saturday evening at Arizona Ave and Frye Rd. The DUI Abatement Council provided grant funding for the event.
On Saturday, August 30, 2014 officers from the Traffic Unit will also be in the downtown area of Chandler conducting the “Know Your Limit” educational awareness program. This popular program, which is in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), is a non-enforcement program designed to educate the public on the effects alcohol has on an individual’s blood alcohol level. Qualified officers will provide attendees with the opportunity to blow into a portable breath tester (PBT). These individuals will then be able to see how their alcohol consumption affects the amount of alcohol in their bloodstream.
Participating officers for both campaigns are specially trained in the detection of roadway impairment for excessive alcohol consumption and use of illicit or excessive prescription drugs. The goal of the DUI Task Force is to remove impaired drivers from the road before the damaging, and often tragic, consequences result from their poor decision to operate a vehicle under the influence. The ultimate goal of both events is to provide alcohol awareness to those who have consumed alcoholic beverages and allow them to understand their level of alcohol before they make the decision to operate a motor vehicle.
Please remember to always wear your seatbelt and to designate a driver when alcohol consumption is a part of your holiday celebration.
