The Chandler Police Department is now accepting applications for its next Citizens Police Academy. The 12-week academy begins August 13, 2014, and runs through October 29, 2014. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Department’s Main Station, located at 250 E. Chicago St. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must either work, live, or attend school in the City of Chandler.
Applicants must pass a basic background check in order to participate.
The Citizens Police Academy gives participants a look inside the day-to-day operations of the Department, and the guidelines in which officers function. Students will be introduced to topics including media and the law, firearms training, gang awareness, patrol functions, K-9 functions, criminal investigations, school violence, traffic law, and use of force. Instruction in these police procedures and theory is combined with practical, hands-on scenarios from officers in their fields.
Applications are available online at chandlerpd.com/community/citizens-academy or contact Crime Prevention Specialist Blanca Quezada in the Community Resources Section at (480) 782-4960.
