On May 2, 2014 the Chandler Police Department’s Property & Evidence section organized a bike giveaway. The purpose of the event was twofold: free up much needed room and give back to the community. During the event, the Department gave away 74 unclaimed bicycles that were either recovered, held for safekeeping, or seized as evidence.
These bicycles, which comprise only a portion of the bicycles actually held at the Department’s Richard E. Felix Property & Evidence building, were listed as “unclaimed property” after attempts were made to contact the bicycles’ owners. Representatives from the Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge #2429, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7401, First Baptist Church, and Trinity Christian Church were on hand May 2 to participate in the event. These organizations then passed the bicycles on to children and other members of the community in need of a bicycle.
