The Chandler Police Department is now accepting applications for its next Citizens Police Academy. The 12-week academy begins February 12, 2014 and runs through April 30, 2014. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Department’s Main Station, located at 250 E. Chicago St. Applicants must be 18 years old and must either work, live, or attend school in the city of Chandler.
Applicants must pass a basic background check in order to participate.
The Citizens Police Academy gives participants a look inside the day-to-day operations of the Department, and the guidelines in which officer’s function. Students will be introduced to topics on media and the law, firearms training, gang awareness, patrol functions, K-9 functions, criminal investigations, school violence, traffic law, and use of force. Instruction in these police procedures and theory is combined with practical, hands-on scenarios from officers in their fields.
