Chandler PD is coordinating the Cops on Top hiking expedition for Arizona this year. Cops on Top is a team of volunteers from the law enforcement, first responder, and public service community from each state who undertake mountain climbing expeditions to honor the memories of those heroes who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting others. Every year this organization has members from each state hike to the highest point in their state to honor those who died in the line of duty. In Arizona that point is the top of Humphrey’s Peak in Flagstaff, with an elevation of 12,633 feet. All of the hikers in each state will attempt to summit their respective mountains on June 29,2013.
The Arizona team, with its largest group to date, consists of 143 members representing 19 different law enforcement agencies throughout the state. They are hiking in honor of Phoenix PD Officer Daryl Raetz and Phoenix firefighter Bradley Harper. Both Raetz and Harper died in the line of duty on May 19, 2013 in two separate incidents.
