Since April of 2012 an unknown suspect has been committing burglaries at various cellular phone retailers in west Chandler. In all, eight separate burglaries occurred at AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile stores. During the burglaries, the suspect used the same modus operandi, wore similar clothing, and carried a unique green backpack.
In the early morning of Monday, August 27, 2012 a patrol sergeant spotted a subject walking in the area of Chandler Blvd. and Price Rd. This individual was wearing a green backpack, similar to the one worn by the burglary suspect. Once contact was made, the subject voluntarily emptied the contents of his backpack revealing items used to commit burglaries including gloves, wire cutters, and a large river rock.
The suspect was later identified as 22-year-old Mark Anthony Voglio, a transient. Upon his arrest, detectives were able to tie Mr. Voglio to all eight burglaries through physical evidence and other investigative techniques. Investigators believe Mr. Voglio committed the burglaries to support a daily spice habit.
Mr. Voglio was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on eight counts of Third Degree Burglary and one count each of Possession of Burglary Tools and Possession of Stolen Property.
