Chandler police want to remind you to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday safely and legally.

“We want everyone to have a great week celebrating the Fourth of July this week. We don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun, but we want you to do it safely,” said Sgt. Ricky Gonzales, with the Media Relations Unit of the Chandler Police Department.

Illegal fireworks, which include anything that explodes or leaves the ground and launches into the air, can have severe consequences. These can range from property damage, structure and field fires, severe burn injuries, to other accidents. The risks are real and we must all be aware of them.

For those who choose to celebrate with legal fireworks, please follow these safety tips to ensure a safe holiday:

  • Always have a nearby water source handy.
  • Never allow children to use lighters.
  • Be mindful of pets who may get scared. Keep them indoors or otherwise secured.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.

The use of permissible consumer fireworks is allowed on private property, with the property owner’s permission, from June 24 through July 6. Chandler prohibits the use of permissible consumer fireworks in any public park.

If you are having a pool party, assign a responsible adult or two to supervise the children.

Designate a sober driver or have plans to use a rideshare or taxi if alcohol consumption will be a part of your celebrations.
