Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck Twice

On Wednesday, December 18, 2019, around 6AM 38-year-old Maria Armendariz was struck by a white 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck as it pulled out of a private driveway at 400 East Ray Road.  Moments later, Maria was struck by a red 1998 Ford Expedition.  Maria, a Chandler resident, was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.

The operator and lone occupant of the Peterbilt continued westbound on Ray Road to his destination in Buckeye.  Investigators contacted the operator of the Peterbilt and learned he was unaware of his involvement in this collision.  The operator of the Expedition remained at the scene.

Detectives from the Department’s Vehicular Crimes Unit continue to investigate this collision.  There is no indication of impairment or distraction on the part of any party involved.  No arrests have been made and no citations have been issued at this time.
