Phoenix Man Crashes into Patrol Vehicle

On Sunday, November 24, 2019 around 5pm, patrol officers were sent to the 200 block of South Kyrene Road for the report of a male slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle.  When officers arrived on-scene they discovered the vehicle, a white 2017 Subaru, had been reported stolen earlier in the day with 25-year-old Cesar Limon asleep behind the steering wheel.

Limon, who was now awake, was ordered out of the vehicle.  Instead, Limon placed the stolen car in drive, accelerated, and struck a parked car.  This pinned an officer between the suspect vehicle’s open driver’s side door and the parked vehicle.  A second officer attempted to grab Limon and remove him from the vehicle.  This was unsuccessful and Limon accelerated a second time and struck a patrol vehicle.

As Limon attempted to shift into reverse, another officer was able to pull the keys out of the ignition.  After a brief struggle, Limon was taken into custody.  Limon was eventually transported to a local hospital after he went into shock from possible drug ingestion.

On Monday, November 25, 2019 around 8pm, Limon was released from the hospital and booked into the Chandler/ Gilbert Unified Jail on multiple felony counts to include Theft of Means of Transportation, Resist Arrest, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and Possession of Narcotic Drugs.

None of the police officers involved required hospitalization.
