On April 10, 2019 around 4:30am a Chandler police officer was conducting follow-up on an investigation in the vicinity of Chandler Boulevard and Hamilton Street when he heard a series of gunshots. The officer looked south towards the sound of the gunshots and saw a male subject firing additional shots from a firearm. When additional officers arrived at this area they discovered 33-year-old Darrell Rushing deceased from multiple gunshots wounds.
On April 17, 2019 31-year-old Luis Martinez was arrested for his alleged role in the shooting death of Darrell Rushing. The next day, 23-year-old Ivan Contreras was taken into custody. Both Luis and Ivan were booked into the Maricopa County on one count of 1st Degree Murder.
