Know the Rules for Legal Fireworks

As we bid adieu to 2017, the Chandler Police Department would like to offer a few tips for an enjoyable celebration:

While buying and selling permissible consumer fireworks in the City of Chandler is legal, setting them off inside the City limits may not be.  Permissible consumer fireworks may be used December 24, 2017 through January 3, 2018, and are restricted to private property, with the permission of the property owner.  Setting off permissible consumer fireworks on public property –  such as city streets, sidewalks, or parks –  is not legal.

Persons found in violation of the permissible consumer firework restrictions, or of setting off other than permissible consumer fireworks, will be subject to a criminal citation or complaint.

Permissible consumer fireworks do not go into the air, or explode. Some types of permissible consumer fireworks are now legal in Arizona to sell to people age 16 and older; however, cities can restrict their use.   The popular novelty items are not regulated, and can be sold and used in Chandler. These include small sparklers, smoke devices, snakes, party poppers, and other similar types.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!
