Chandler Police Department Receives GOHS Grant

The Chandler Police Department has received an $81,500 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to fund numerous traffic safety related programs for the period beginning October 26, 2017, through September 30, 2018.

  • The Department’s Traffic Section will use $18,500 of this grant to fund two civilian motorcycle training courses. These courses are designed to educate the public on the safe operation of a motorcycle and will be administered and facilitated by members of the Department’s Traffic Section.
  • $41,000 will fund officer overtime to work DUI enforcement during select times of the year when impaired driving increases. Officers selected under this funding are specially trained in DUI detection methods, which includes the detection of illicit and prescription drugs ingested into the human body.
  • The Department’s Traffic Section will use $20,000 to enforce Arizona’s seat belt and child safety seat laws. During select times of the year, officers from the Traffic Section will increase enforcement efforts to drive home the message: Buckle Up Arizona…It’s the Law!
  • Finally, $2,000 will be used to fund phlebotomy supplies, which are used to support the Department’s DUI enforcement program.

Please remember to always wear your seatbelt and designate a driver when alcohol consumption is part of your plans.
