On Saturday, September 2, 2017, 36-year-old Anas Muraweh (Pictured) was arrested by Chandler Police for trespassing after being identified as a subject in the backyard of an occupied home. After his arrest, a large amount of cash and loose change was located inside the vehicle Muraweh was driving. Inside the roll of cash, detectives located personal checks.
All of the checks were made out to the Islamic Center of the East Valley, a mosque located at 425 North Alma School Road in Chandler. Further investigation revealed on September 1, 2017, the mosque was burglarized. Video surveillance from the mosque revealed Muraweh forcing open the donation deposit boxes and stealing cash, change, and checks.
The surveillance video reveals a second suspect. While Muraweh is breaking into and emptying the donation deposit boxes, a black male wearing a light green shirt and black pants is seen walking into camera view and standing near Muraweh. The unknown accomplice appears to be in his forties to fifties, is above-average build, and is bald.
Muraweh was arrested on the morning of September 3, 2017 and booked into the Maricopa County jail on one count of Burglary, one count of Identity Theft, and five counts of forgery.
