On April 14, 2017, around 1:00 PM, three Hispanic males committed an armed robbery in the 1200 block of N. Mesa Drive in the City of Mesa. The suspects forced the victim into the trunk of his own car and drove him to another location in Mesa. The victim was eventually released, but the suspects stole his car.
Later that day, around 4:00 PM, the same three Hispanic male subjects committed a second armed robbery, this time in the Best Buy parking lot at 3100 W. Frye Road in Chandler. After threatening the victim with a firearm and stealing his possessions, the suspects fled in the vehicle they had stolen earlier in Mesa. A customer leaving the Best Buy store witnessed the robbery and called 911.
This witness followed the suspects and provided updates to 911. At one point, the vehicle stopped in the roadway, and three suspects inside the vehicle threatened the witness with firearms. The suspect vehicle drove away. The witness, now a victim, stopped following.
The suspects eventually abandoned the stolen vehicle in the 2300 block of West Comstock Road.
Investigators from the Mesa Police Department and Chandler Police Department believe the same suspects were involved in both robberies. The suspects all wore small backpacks/knapsacks on their backs, and left clothing items along their path. They were last seen walking northbound on Dobson Road, near the Elliot Road intersection.
