Detectives Continue to Search for Investigative Lead on a 2000 Cold Case

On October 30, 2000, 33-year-old Douglas Miguel was found dead under a tree near a retention area in the 400 block of South Nebraska Street.  A Medical Examiner’s report determined Douglas died of asphyxia due to strangulation.

Investigators believe Douglas died between 2:30am and 1:30pm.  Douglas was at a local bar the previous evening and was seen in the area during the early morning hours of October 30.  Detectives were able to develop a possible investigative lead, a Hispanic male known by the moniker, ‘Puma’.

According to witnesses, Puma was clean shaven with a baby face and a distinct tattoo on his right arm.  On the night of Douglas’s murder, Puma was wearing denim shorts, a khaki jacket, and a baseball cap.  A photograph of Puma from around the time of Douglas’s murder is attached.

Puma remains a person of interest in this case.  If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Puma, or if you may have witnessed this incident, please contact the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130 or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS (948-6377).  Silent Witness is offering a reward up to $2,000 for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of a suspect.
