Traffic Unit Receives GOHS Grants

The Department’s Traffic Unit has received two grants from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).  The first grant is to fund the Occupant Protection program, which is used to enforce Arizona’s seat belt and child safety seat laws.  The second grant covers equipment such as helmets and L.I.D.A.R (Light Detection And Ranging) speed detection devices for the members of the Traffic Unit.

Although Arizona has a secondary seat belt law, the enforcement campaign is based upon high visibility traffic enforcement with a zero-tolerance approach towards seat belt and child safety seat usage.  As a part of the national Click-It-Or-Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, officers from the Department’s Traffic Unit will step up and increase enforcement efforts to drive home the message: Buckle Up Arizona…It’s the Law!

The Department received $10,000 from GOHS to fund the Occupant Protection program and $18,306 for equipment.  Both grants run through September 30, 2016.
