Woman Arrested for Attempted Homicide

On January 30, 2014 at about 1:30PM, police received a call from Chandler Regional Hospital regarding a 66 year-old male patient who was admitted for a surgical procedure.  After the procedure was completed the man was in a recovery room with his wife, Rosemary Vogel.  While in the recovery room, the warning alarm on the IV monitor sounded, alerting the hospital staff there was a problem with the IV flow. When staff entered the recovery room, they found Rosemary manipulating her husbands IV.

Upon inspection, staff found that the IV had a brown substance in the line and immediately removed it from his arm.  Rosemary attempted to drain the fluid from the line into a waste basket, but the nurse intervened. The substance was tested in the hospital lab and found it to contain fecal matter.  Rosemary was placed under arrest.

A search of her purse revealed three more syringes, two of which contained fluid, the third appeared to have trace amounts of fecal matter still present.  Rosemary’s charges have been upgraded to attempted 1st degree murder.  The victim is expected to survive but remains in the hospital recovering from the surgical procedure and the attempt on his life.

At this time, we have no indication or motive as to why Rosemary was interfering with her husbands IV.  This case remains open and the investigation is ongoing.
