Suspect Arrested in Kidnapping/ Aggravated Assault

On August 9, 2011 at approximately 2330 hours, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of east Ray Rd. for the report of a kidnapping.  Upon arrival, officers learned that 32-year-old Salvador Ortiz Reyes had forced his live-in girlfriend into a gold Dodge passenger car and fled the scene.  Chandler patrol officers were provided a description of both the vehicle and the suspect, and an attempt-to-locate was sent to agencies statewide, including the Border Patrol.

Approximately one hour later a patrol officer observed a gold Dodge passenger car drive by his location.  As the vehicle passed by, the officer heard screaming from inside the vehicle.  The vehicle was stopped by police, and Reyes was immediately taken into custody.

The victim was treated by paramedics for her injuries.

During the ordeal, Reyes drove the victim throughout Chandler, threatening to kill her.  At one point, Reyes stopped the vehicle and ordered the victim out.  She complied, then got on her knees and begged Reyes not to kill her.

Reyes was heading back to the victim’s residence when the alert patrol officer spotted the vehicle.  Reyes was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, threatening and intimidating, and theft.
