Alert Citizen Helps Police Nab Burglary Suspects

On August 11, 2011 at 1:40 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of West Geronimo St. for the report of an active burglary.  An alert citizen called 911 after seeing a subject break a window out of a vehicle, then leave the scene in a white passenger car.  As a canine officer arrived in the area he spotted a white passenger car driving through the neighborhood without its headlights on.

The officer blocked a portion of the roadway with his vehicle in an attempt to stop the white passenger car.  Instead, the driver swerved around the patrol vehicle and continued on its way.  A second canine officer arrived on scene and was able to stop the car.  Three subjects, two adult males and one juvenile male, were taken into custody.

The two adult suspects, 19-year-old Leopold Macias and 19-year-old Cody Moon, are Phoenix residents.  Both were booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of burglary.  The juvenile suspect was released to his mother with a pending criminal complaint.

We would like to remind residents to never leave valuables in a vehicle and always park your car in a garage whenever possible.  If you must leave your car outside, park in a well-lit area and utilize an anti-theft device to deter criminals from targeting your vehicle and property.
