Leonardo’s Shooting Suspect Arrested

On February 12, 2011 just after midnight a fight broke out at Leonardo’s, located at 2020 North Arizona Avenue.  As the crowd gathered in front of the club, the suspect in this case, described by witnesses as black male, 18 to 20 years old, about 5’7” tall and thin build, dark skin, wearing a red baseball style cap, white t-shirt, jeans and red ‘Chuck Taylor’ shoes, focused on the victim, who was not involved in the confrontation.  As the suspect grew more agitated, the victim, 19 year old Sir Xavier Brooks, held up his hands and backed away from the suspect.  The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Brooks, then fled the scene on foot.  Brooks was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound.  He later died from that injury.

Information obtained from the investigation led investigators to Orlando Maurice Membhard as being the shooter.  With the help of the U S Marshals office, Orlando was located in Yonkers, New York. Chandler Detectives flew to New York and took custody of Orlando. He was extradited and booked into Maricopa County Jail on Friday March 25, 2011 on one count of Second Degree Murder.

Chandler Police is asking the public to come forward with any information regarding this incident.
