The Chandler Police Department’s unpaid internship program provides interns with meaningful and practical work experience while developing their professional skills. Internships are available to college and technical students who are considering a career in law enforcement. The Chandler Police Department requires interns to be enrolled in coursework related to their desired internship section. Successful completion of a background investigation is required.

Submissions of Applications

Applications must be submitted via the online forms received at the beginning of the semester prior to when their desired internship begins. If an applicant wishes to be an intern in the spring, their application typically must be received in August. If an applicant wishes to begin their internship in the fall, however, their application must be submitted in March. Internships are awarded based on the qualifications and interview process of the applicant, as well as current staffing levels. Applying with the Chandler Police Department does not guarantee an internship position. Please use the links below for the appropriate application and to view any additional skills and/or qualifications required for each Internship Opportunity.

Internship Duration

Internships are typically the length of an academic semester, however, this may vary by institution. Weekly work hours vary by section of interest. Review specific internship opportunities for applications and additional requirements. If an intern would like to continue volunteering with the Chandler Police Department after their internship is completed, they may apply to be a member of the Volunteers In Policing unit.
