Our Mission: To provide a safe community where people can live, work, and thrive.
In 2019, Chandler Police Department (CPD) Communications earned recertification of their new hire training program through the Associations of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), ensuring the program is aligned with best practices and industry standards.
Communications enhanced safety in the City of Chandler by implementing new data reporting using mobile apps. Uber drivers and riders contacted 9-1-1 through the Uber app which automatically sent the vehicle description and license plate along with the 9-1-1 call. MedicAlert members associated phone numbers to their MedicAlert ID which automatically sent registered health information when 9-1-1 was called.
Communications operationalized city and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) traffic cameras for timely, effective decision making, risk management, and resource allocation.
The department evaluated and adjusted operational priorities and dispatch procedures to ensure life-saving emergencies are delineated from urgent calls for service in order to ensure appropriate resource allocation and dispatch times are prioritized. This improvement aligned CPD policies more closely with other agencies in the region.
RapidSOS Portal was implemented, providing real-time and improved 9-1-1 location technology. This technology provided additional situational awareness, mapping and environmental cues, and faster delivery for informed decision-making during an emergency response.
CPD was the first in the state to implement Carbyne’s C-lite livestream video and instant messaging platform. This platform allows livestream video reporting and an alternative to text-to-911.
Lastly, Communications upgraded the 9-1-1 phone system, making CPD communications the third center in the nation to adopt the new system. This transition assisted in automating some 9-1-1 processes including call backs in accidental 9-1-1 calls, added efficiencies in managing call flow, and provided additional training options in a live environment.
